This Week's Obsession: Diamonds in Music

rihanna at the diamond ball

What do Marilyn Monroe, Rihanna, Prince, and Pink Floyd have in common? They all sang about diamonds. We have diamonds and pearls, diamonds in the sky and we also have diamonds on the souls of her shoes. We also have famous singers like Neil Diamond that just flat out flaunts it on his name. Rihanna, loves diamonds as we do, she holds an annual charity ball, named aptly, The Diamond Ball. She's pictured above in a diamond choker with a rubellite pear drop.  At Covett we love all types of diamonds, rather than sing about them we prefer wear our diamonds. The allure of this so not humble piece of carbon is undeniable.

Today, many young men wear jewellery comfortably — chains, signet rings, and bracelets are urban staples. Glittering stones have proven to be fascinating to the growing pool of male shoppers. Although sales for fine jewellery generally fell in 2020, demand for London jewellers Shaun Leane and men’s diamonds increased 44% year-on-year. With a 50% increase in Shay in LA, Matches Fashion has begun editing 36 glitter designs from 11 brands. Boucheron CEO Helene Puri Ducain calls this category “promising.”

Kering’s latest campaign in the Maison of Paris presents a male model with gold and diamond ear clips and thick emerald and diamond pinky rings shining across the ceiling. “We want men to be full of diamonds,” she says. We, ladies at Covett could not agree more! We want everyone to be covered in diamonds.
