This Week's Obsession: The Future of Your Closet is Circular
Last week we wrote about how to build a circular wardrobe. This week, Fashion Week kicked off in New York City and will move to London the following week. Thinking about it, we decided why not bring together partners from the circular fashion ecosystem that allows you to see how you can build an amazing circular wardrobe. Joining us will be partners from rental, resale, repair, repurpose, and upcycling. And, of course, we represent the newest kid on the circular block, co-ownership.
Located in the heart of Mayfair, this brunch style event will allow you to experience fashion, learn more about circularity, and of course, shop. You may also decide to monetise your existing wardrobe. You may be thinking,"wait, is that a thing?" Yes it is, many people are taking items from their closet and renting them to fellow fashion lovers on platforms like By Rotation or selling items they no longer use on resale platforms like Sign of the Times.
We are hosting this event along with the Mayor of London, who is sponsoring ReLondon's Circular Economy Week. Seats are limited, so RSVP today. There will be an opportunity to win a share in a Gucci or Valentino designer bag as well. You won't want to miss this. If you would like to the first on the list contact us at concierge@moreluxury.club. Spaces are limited, so please let us know today.
Why is adopting a circular wardrobe is so important?
The idea of More Luxury Club was to deliver more for less - to make luxury goods more affordable and sustainable while allowing consumers to experience a high touch service that actually removed all the hassles while prolonging the lifespan and helping to retain the items value for future resale.
On a global view, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, adopting a circular wardrobe is essential for reducing fashion's environmental impact. The fashion industry contributes significantly to waste and carbon emissions, and a circular wardrobe helps reduce both by extending the life of garments through reuse, repair, and recycling. This approach also conserves valuable resources, like water and energy, which are heavily consumed by traditional clothing production.
A circular wardrobe promotes ethical consumption, supporting brands with sustainable practices and fair labor standards. By focusing on quality over quantity, consumers contribute to a more responsible fashion industry and move away from the fast fashion cycle, which often involves exploitative labor practices. Circular fashion also supports a growing secondhand economy, where consumers can buy and sell quality pieces at lower costs, further reducing waste.
On a personal level, a circular wardrobe encourages thoughtful purchasing, helping individuals buy only what they need and avoid fast fashion trends. This approach leads to a more unique and personalized style, as consumers incorporate vintage, upcycled, or secondhand pieces into their wardrobes. Additionally, it offers long-term financial benefits by investing in durable clothing that doesn’t need frequent replacement.
Overall, a circular wardrobe combats overproduction, reduces pollution, and empowers consumers to make mindful choices. It challenges the damaging cycle of fast fashion while promoting sustainability, both in terms of environmental impact and personal consumption habits. Join us, it's a win for consumers, business and the planet.
