This Week's Obsession: Our Top 10 Designer Bags To Invest In

If you read our blog or newsletter before the Easter Holiday, you may have been surprised about the ongoing negative press on the luxury industry.  One way to to understand the actual value of designer bags is to look at the resale value on the secondary market, for most this is via websites like Vinted, Ebay, Vestiaire Collective and The Real Real.  The latter published it's 2024 Resale Report and there are many interesting facts about what people are searching, buying, and of course, which designer bags are retaining their value.

According the the report, fashion is experiencing a groundbreaking transformation. No longer dictated solely by the runways, trends are now bubbling up from grassroots sources like TikTok, popular TV shows, and the vibrant pulse of street style. This remarkable fusion of fashion and culture is giving consumers the power to set trends, fuelling a desire for distinctive, high-quality pieces that mirror their individuality.

In these uncertain economic times, there's a noticeable shift towards investing in quality: for the second consecutive year, the report observed a rise in both average order values and sale prices across all age groups, with increases reaching up to 14%. Their conclusion is it's not just about the latest trends anymore—it's about timelessness. Shoppers are more focused than ever on building wardrobes that emphasise uniqueness and lasting value. We're totally onboard as we believe  co-ownership creates more value for our members than any other circular models due to our meticulous care of the products - not only extending their lifespan but retaining their value.

We like the list because it distinguishes between well known and up and coming bags. What's your bet for the bag selling well about the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price)? No, it's not a Birkin, but close.

As a club for luxury enthusiasts, we see part of our value proposition is to provide insights into what makes the best bag investments, the best time to sell your shares as well as when an item reaches end of life.  We also want to be your "go to" where you can discover new brands not just for bags but for jewellery and clothing.  They may not even be brands or bags we would have in our club because the price point isn't right to warrant sharing, but would make a great bag to own like a Polène Paris or in some cases certain Jacquemus bags.

A few insights from the report regarding bag buying trends for 2025.

This Year’s It Bag? Something More Attainable.

Shoppers are more down to earth this year… at least when it comes to their bag buys.

While top-tier luxury prices have continued to rise-and shoppers are spending, on average, 20% more on bags today than they were five years ago-this year shows a trend towards slightly more accessible styles from flagships like Miu Miu and Loewe and emerging brands.  We see this with our community's voting preferences.

In 2024, buyer growth in the $1,000-$3,000 price range has increased by 13% compared to last year, marking the largest uptick of any price category- with a focus on good investments over trends. The RRP's of our bags are typically in this range, the exception, is the bag we dubbed The One, the dream bag that for many felt unattainable until More Luxury Club.
